• More than 500 historic racing cars in the Motodrom
  • Spectators back in the grandstands and paddock, 3G hygiene concept proves its worth
  • Next Bosch Hockenheim Historic to be held from 6 to 8 May 2022

At the Bosch Hockenheim Historic – The Jim Clark Revival last weekend, 27 to 29 August 2021, at the Hockenheimring, spectators were treated to a unique spectrum in historic motorsport: Thrilling racing in all engine capacity classes and in the vehicle categories formula cars, sports prototypes, GT and touring cars and the world premiere of the Lotus “Black&Gold Collection” by ChromeCars, which thrilled with presentation drives.

After a year’s break due to Corona, a total of almost 20,000 fans were drawn to the Hockenheimring at the weekend. After the end of the event, Jorn Teske, Managing Director of Hockenheim-Ring GmbH, was highly satisfied with the 16th edition of the popular classic car event: “It’s a great feeling that we were once again able to welcome visitors to the grandstands and even to the paddock and that the response was so great. An event like the Bosch Hockenheim Historic lives from being close to the fans. No matter whether participants, fans, sponsoring partners or the organisation team – everyone was happy to be at the Ring together again. However, we live in special times and so we placed special focus on the smooth implementation of our hygiene concept in the run-up to the event in order to be able to guarantee the safest possible event. In hindsight, we can state that our procedures with regard to 3G interrogation have proven themselves and were well received.”

For the fans, coming to the event was worthwhile: around 500 participants in twelve racing series offered flawless motorsport. The breathtaking cars of the Group C Super Cup, the Touring Car Classics, the Historic Racecar Association and the FHR HTGT for the Dunlop Trophy were all on the grid. The rest of the starting field was top-class with the Historic Formula Vau Europa, the CanAM & Sportscars, the GT Classics, the Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge, Dunlop Gentle Drivers ’65, the Kampf der Zwerge and the VFV GLPPro. Traditionally, heats of the Raceclub Germany rounded off the unique spectrum on the track. An exclusive world premiere was celebrated by ChromeCars’ “Black&Gold Collection”, which offered a real feast for the senses with its exquisite Lotus Formula 1 cars and an LMP2 during presentation runs.

“The great variety of racing series from the different eras and the full starting grids are the hallmarks of the event and we are proud to have managed an impressive mix, even in pandemic times. We were particularly pleased to see the successful return of Group C with its spectacular cars from the 1980s and 1990s to the Hockenheimring. These are good omens for the Bosch Hockenheim Historic 2022, which we are already looking forward to,” said Jochen Nerpel, Managing Director of Hockenheim-Ring GmbH.

For the tenth time, the Design Awards in the categories best GT, prototype and formula car were presented during the Bosch Hockenheim Historic. The expert jury – consisting of three-time Le Mans winner Marco Werner, ChromeCars managing director Kai Nieklauson and Ring managing director Jochen Nerpel – awarded the prizes to Wolfgang Ziegler’s Trabant 601 RS, which was also driven by racing legend Roland Asch at the weekend, Michael Herich’s Gebhardt JC 853 and Dr. Jochen Gaa’s Larrousse F1.
