{"id":34099,"date":"2026-09-10T16:07:05","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T14:07:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hockenheimring.de\/?p=34099"},"modified":"2026-09-10T16:07:05","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T14:07:05","slug":"great-expectations-for-the-dtm-title-showdown-at-hockenheim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hockenheimring.de\/en\/2026\/09\/great-expectations-for-the-dtm-title-showdown-at-hockenheim\/","title":{"rendered":"Great expectations for the DTM title showdown at Hockenheim"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>The 2026 DTM season finale will take place from 9 to 11 October at the Hockenheimring in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg<\/li>\n<li>Thrilling action for fans: GT3 cars from eight manufacturers and some of the world\u2019s best GT drivers will battle it out for the title<\/li>\n<li>An exciting and varied programme for the whole family, packed with entertainment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As an exciting and varied motorsport season enters its final stages at the Hockenheimring Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg, the historic circuit on the outskirts of Heidelberg traditionally hosts the season finale of one of Europe\u2019s most prestigious racing series: For the 30th time, the DTM will crown its champion on the 4.5-kilometre Grand Prix circuit. And with six of the eight rounds of the season already completed, it is no stretch to predict that the final weekend, from 9 to 11 October in the \u2018asparagus capital\u2019, will deliver a showdown of the very highest calibre. Just like last year, when Porsche works driver Ayhancan G\u00fcven secured the championship title with a breathtaking overtaking manoeuvre in the Sachs Bend, just a few metres before the final chequered flag of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The situation heading into the 2026 season is completely wide open. Mathematically, 15 drivers still have a chance to follow in the footsteps of the first Turkish DTM champion in history. In the provisional standings, Maro Engel in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Mercedes-AMG Team Winward leads by just one point ahead of Thomas Preining in the Porsche 911 GT3 R from Manthey Racing.<\/p>\n<p>The level of competition in the DTM is, once again, immense: no fewer than eight different drivers have crossed the finish line first in one of the 16 races so far this season. The only driver to have achieved this more than twice is Matteo Cairoli in the Emil Frey Racing Ferrari 496 GT3. However, as his three victories have been offset by a number of poor points finishes, the Italian still finds himself \u2018only\u2019 sixth in the championship standings. The counter-example is Lucas Auer (Mercedes-AMG GT3 \/ Landgraf Motorsport). The two-time DTM runner-up from Austria has not yet won a race this season, but has finished on the podium four times and in the top five seven times, putting him in a promising fourth place in the overall standings. This shows that consistency is the key to success in the DTM.<\/p>\n<p>And this is certainly no easy task, as the field is incredibly evenly matched. The GT3 cars from Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Ford, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche, each producing around 550 PS, are driven by some of the best GT drivers in the world. In most cases, the 21 race cars are within a second of one another in qualifying; a difference of a tenth of a second can sometimes mean the difference between two rows on the grid. And even in the races, where mandatory pit stops for tyre changes \u2013 one in Saturday\u2019s race and two in Sunday\u2019s \u2013 add extra excitement, the field generally remains tightly bunched. Every centimetre is fiercely contested \u2013 often at the expense of a wing mirror. And the Hockenheimring in particular, with its varied mix of fast straights and slow corners, is the perfect setting for thrilling duels and overtaking manoeuvres pushed to the absolute limit.<\/p>\n<p>The title decider therefore promises once again to be a real thriller. But take note: whilst the Saturday race will start at 1.30 pm as usual, the lights will not go out until 4.30 pm the following day for dramatic effect. After the chequered flag, the start\/finish area will be opened so that racing fans can witness the winners\u2019 and champions\u2019 ceremonies from the front row.<\/p>\n<p><strong>An exciting supporting programme packed with entertainment<\/strong><br \/>\nNaturally, it is not only the DTM that benefits from the challenging layout of the Grand Prix circuit, but also its supporting series, which, as always, ensure plenty of action on the track. Two races each from the ADAC GT Masters, the ADAC GT4 Germany, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany and the new BMW M2 Cup will provide fans at the track with a full day\u2019s spectacle on both race days. In addition, the DTM Fan Zone attracts visitors with a varied programme of entertainment, interviews, shows, music, autograph sessions with the drivers and much more. And if the youngest fans need a break from the racing action, a dip into the ball pit is just the thing.<\/p>\n<p>A family-friendly programme also means family-friendly admission prices. Anyone who just wants to get a taste of the action on Friday can do so for 15 euros (adults). Day tickets for Saturday and Sunday, including access to the paddock, start at 49 euros, whilst the cheapest weekend ticket is available for just 69 euros.
